Trafficking relief organization spreads their message of human rights at UW-La Crosse

A director with a human rights agency that rescues victims of slavery, sexual exploitation and other forms of violent oppression will speak on campus Monday, Sept. 30.

Northwest Director of Church Mobilization Mike Hogan will discuss trafficking for commercial sex exploitation and hazardous physical labor. Hogan will speak at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 30, in 1309 Centennial Hall. Admission is free. Hogan represents International Justice Mission (IJM), an agency that works with local officials in other countries to rescue victims of abuse, provide them aftercare and prosecute the perpetrators. According to the IJM website, nearly 2 million children are exploited to the commercial sex industry alone, generating more than $32 billion a year. The mission’s goal is to bring those numbers down. IJM is headquartered in Washington, D.C., and includes investigators, lawyers and social workers who work in 16 field offices in Asia, Africa and Latin America. Hogan travels throughout the country promoting the mission of IJM to increase community awareness and support. Admission is free.
