The Universities of Wisconsin has recently updated their Recruitment Policy 1275 effective November 5, 2024. A summary of the changes is detailed below. It is recommended to review the policy in full which can be found here:
- Details regarding UW System employees personnel file review check prior to an offer;
- Details on acquiring State Agency personnel files;
- Updated language to Misconduct Reference Check (MRC) from SHRC (Sexual Harassment Reference Check)
- Updated Misconduct Check language and requirements.
Additionally, to meet the requirements of the new policy, UW La Crosse will be utilizing a reference check software, “SkillSurvey,” to complete all non- faculty professional reference checks and all required misconduct reference checks. Therefore, Human Resources will be conducting all reference and misconduct checks moving forward (excluding faculty hires).
The process change will require hiring managers (excluding faculty hires) to notify HR by emailing HRINFO@UWLAX.EDU with the recruitment name and post number in the subject line with the candidate names and email addresses in the body of the email. This will initiate the process for reference and misconduct checks.
Once the reference checking process is completed, results will be shared via email with the Committee Chair/Hiring Manager and the recruitment can move to the next step. (Please note that our PeopleAdmin manuals will not be updated with the SkillSurvey process due to the implementation of Workday in 2025.)
Candidates should be aware that they will be asked to enter their references’ contact information into SkillSurvey via a separate e-mail request. We also strongly encourage candidates to notify their references so they can expect an e-mail from SkillSurvey to complete in a timely manner.
Please note, UWL Recruitment Policies are currently being reviewed and updated.
