A week-long celebration of the Coulee Region’s global connections.
The week showcases the cultural, social and economic value of the community through a variety of activities such as dance, cuisine, art, film, speakers and more.
Throughout the week the national, award-winning audio-documentary project, “Hear, Here,” started by a UW-La Crosse class, will offer self-guided tours that take people through the impact of three waves of migrants into La Crosse: German, Hmoob and Cuban.
Some Global Initiatives Week events include
- Learn about the history of Ukrainian Easter Eggs and make your own from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Nov. 9, at Bridges United Methodist Church, 721 King St., La Crosse.
- Free film: "Living on a dollar" from 5:30-7:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 11, 120 Student Union, UWL.
- Explore Chinese culture and cuisine from 6-7 p.m., Monday, Nov. 11, at 196 Nursing Center, Viterbo University.
- Cultural Coffee Hour from 5-6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, 1300 Cameron Hall of Nations, UWL.
- A free documentary Viewing and Discussion: Border Politics will be from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 13, at the La Crosse Public Library, 800 Main St., La Crosse.
- Listen to traditional Irish music at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 13, at Strasser's, 1310 Denton Street, La Crosse.
- Free public talk: How Did We Get Here? The Hidden Impacts of Racial Disparities on the well-being of La Crosse and Wisconsin, 10 a.m.- noon, Saturday, Nov. 16, English Lutheran Church Auditorium, 1509 King St., La Crosse. More information: laxwakingupwhite.com
