Team seeks donations to help with construction costs

Women from UW-La Crosse are coming together to help a local family find affordable housing. Habitat for Humanity-La Crosse Area’s 4th annual Women Build project involves building a home on Willow Street in Viroqua. At least seven UW-L employees will be putting on their construction hats to build and raise funds for the project. Other UW-L women interested in joining the project may contact UW-L employee Mandy Wagner at mwagner@uwlax.edu. Teams from throughout the La Crosse area representing various businesses and government have already assembled. A construction manager will guide these volunteers at the worksite on July 21. Each team of volunteers is expected to raise $1,000 toward the construction. Individuals who participate raise $100. If 10 teams of 10 women raise the required amount, that’s $10,000 toward the 37th home built by Habitat for Humanity-La Crosse Area. The purpose of Women Build is to encourage women to use their time and talents to build and advocate for simple, decent and affordable houses in the community. The Viroqua home will be built in partnership with Bryan and Angela Mathison and their two daughters. The family will work alongside volunteers to complete their required 350 hours of sweat equity. When their home is complete, the Mathisons will purchase it with a zero-interest, 30-year mortgage. Donate toward Women Build Habitat for Humanity project organized by UW-L women visit the Habitat for Humanity La Crosse area website. Click the Donate Now button and write “WB – Coulee Belles” in the designation box. Donations are accepted through July 13. Wagner, mwagner@uwlax.edu, is also accepting donations at room 245 Graff Main Hall. Women interested in joining the Women Build, contact Wagner at mwagner@uwlax.edu.
