Please review below for best practices and handy tips!

Please submit all requests to hrinfo@uwlax.edu with the subject line 'Reference Check'. 

Faculty Recruitment Candidates

  • If a final candidate has worked for any UW Institution in the last seven (7) years, HR will need to check their personnel file BEFORE any verbal or written offer is given.
  • Within 1-2 business days, HR will respond as to whether or not the Department can proceed with the offer.

University and Administrative Staff Candidates:

  • At the time you are requesting on campus interviews, is the best time to send a request to hrinfo@uwlax.edu for a full reference check and misconduct check.
  • When you contact the candidate to come in for an interview, please let them know that will recieve an email from SkillSurvey which they will be required to review & complete. 
    • Instructions should be given to the candidate to check their inbox and spam/junk folder
    • Additionally, please make them aware that their references will also be receiving an email.
  • If a candidate does not have work experience or has been absent from the workforce for a period of time, we can have them submit references but would list the one who has known them longest as a supervisor/manager.
  • Additional reference calls can be made if questions are submitted to the Office of Civil Rights and Compliance and approved prior to making those calls.
  • If candidates are struggling with completing their SkillSurvey reference they can also reach out to the hiring manager or HR for assistance.
