New issue highlights CASSH graduate programs — and more
Welcome to the fall 2023 edition of Capstone, the biannual publication for alumni and friends of the College of Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities (CASSH) at UWL. I hope you are able to enjoy some of the great fall weather, at least on the weekends, like we have been having in La Crosse.
While the current Capstone provides various articles featuring and updating activities of several CASSH faculty, students and departments, the theme for this issue highlights our excellent and established graduate programs in student affairs administration and school psychology.
In fact, we are very proud one of the two doctoral-level degrees offered at UWL is from CASSH, the Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Student Affairs Administration and Leadership, which started in 2017. In 2022, we also began offering an online version of both our Master of Education and Educational Specialist degrees in school psychology, providing career advancement opportunities for people wanting to earn these credentials but not able to travel to campus on a regular basis for our in-person program. These graduate-level innovations, along with our previously long-established graduate programs in these areas, provide solid opportunities for numerous students to gain advanced degrees both enhancing both their careers and the communities around them.
The fall 2023 Capstone also includes a welcome as well as a heartfelt goodbye. CASSH is welcoming Pete Rydberg, inaugural director of the School of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA), who will lead and facilitate public-facing aspects of VPA. Rydberg comes to us after working as a faculty member and director of theatre at Emporia State University in Kansas. We also wish a very happy retirement to Brad Quarberg, who not only is a 1985 UWL graduate with a CASSH double-major in mass communications and political science, but also worked in University Communications for 35 years. He was the liaison with our College and the driving production force behind many previous editions of Capstone over the years.
I hope you enjoy this version of Capstone, reading about many of the impressive recent CASSH activities and accomplishments, as well as the people in our College. I personally appreciate your support for both CASSH and UW-La Crosse.
