New graduates, historic artifacts and the transformative power of philanthropy. Take a look at some of our favorite photos from May at UWL.

From left to right: Professor of Geography & Environmental Science Gargi Chaudhuri and students Courtney Osmek and Emma Everett created a map allowing community members to more easily identify food resources such as community gardens and food pantries.

During a celebration at the end of April, it was announced that UWL's new Fieldhouse would be named for Bob Hetzel (seated), who is retiring after 17 years as vice chancellor for Administration & Finance.
Preserved in Murphy Library: UWL's original seal, created in 1928 by student artist Tony Lee. The seal illustrates the university's motto, mens corpusque, Latin for "mind and body."

While campaigning for president, John F. Kennedy came to speak at the old Mary E. Sawyer Auditorium in downtown La Crosse. He stayed at the Hotel Stoddard, formerly located on Fourth Street. The back of this photo includes a handwritten note from Kennedy to the hotel's owner and manager, John Elliott.

Kennedy's note reads: “It was a pleasure meeting with you. Many thanks for the hospitality.”
