Professor Emeritus Joe Heim and five other wannabes helped the contest raise more than  $84,000 – with half going to six area nonprofit organizations. Heim alone raised a record $35,174 to be named the first-place winner in the competition. Half of that amount — $17,587 — was awarded to the UWL Foundation for political science and public administration scholarships. Sister May Ann Gschwind, Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration archivist, was the second-place fundraiser, collecting a total of $23,657, with the Franciscan Hospitality House getting half. The two conducted the orchestra at the its season finale April 30. A thank you to campus As many of you are aware, I have been involved in a La Crosse Symphony "conductor wannabe" contest to raise money for both the La Crosse Symphony and, also, scholarships for political science and public administration students at UWL. The campaign concluded last week and was a great success, raising about $35,000 for these two causes. I am particularly gratified because of the generosity of so many past and present faculty and staff of UWL for their contributions that added greatly to the success of the campaign. I am especially thankful for the support of the UWL Foundation staff. So, I would like to thank each and every one who participated in this effort. I greatly appreciate your willingness to step up and support these causes. — Joe Heim, University Legislative Liaison and Faculty Emeritus
