UW-La Crosse is again listed among the top 100 colleges and universities in the country that deliver academic quality and affordability. UW-L is one of only two public colleges in Wisconsin to make “Kiplinger's Personal Finance” magazine’s list of top 100 values in public education. UW-Madison was the other Wisconsin public college to make the list. From large flagship universities to small liberal arts colleges, Kiplinger’s ranks the top 100 four-year schools according to specific criteria for quality and affordability such as student-faculty ratios, admission rates, on-time graduation rate, sticker price and financial aid. “We’re very proud of this prestigious external recognition,” said UW-L Chancellor Joe Gow. “Clearly we continue to provide our students with an outstanding educational experience at a very reasonable price.” Some measures of UW-L’s academic quality include a 20:1 student-faculty ratio and a six-year-graduation rate of 69 percent, which is well above the national average. UW-L also has high caliber students with 65 percent achieving an ACT score of 24 or higher. UW-L had an in-state rank of 73 and out-of-state rank of 65 on Kiplinger’s list. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill earned the No. 1 spot for its in-state rank. Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine is a leader in personal finance and business forecasting. UW-La Crosse also remains the top-ranked comprehensive university in the UW System for the 12th year in a row, according to U.S.News & World Report’s 2013 America’s Best Colleges list of Best Regional Universities in the Midwest. UW-L is the No. 4 public university in the Midwest in the category that includes institutions providing a full range of undergraduate majors and master’s programs.
