New issue explores the quality, variety of UWL's teacher preparation programs
This school year, the School of Education at UW-La Crosse began using the hashtag/motto #teachproud. In a time when it’s more important than ever to prepare future educators, we know that we must also take pride in the fact that education is our most important work.
Our spring issue of the Eagle EDge showcases the many ways we show pride in the Education profession, and the variety of high-quality experiences that make our graduates some of the most highly qualified educators in the state of Wisconsin.
Educators are responsible for fostering critical thinking, creativity, and lifelong learning in students. We need to have high expectations to ensure that future educators are well-prepared, adaptable, and capable of meeting the varying needs of their students. Additionally, setting a high standard encourages excellence in teaching, leading to better student outcomes, stronger communities, and a more effective education system overall.
Thanks to the innovation and dedication of faculty, staff, community, partners, and students, along with the generosity of donors, we can proudly offer a range of experiences and programs for our education students. In this issue you’ll read about the different opportunities we offer within the School of Education to help prepare our future educators in meaningful ways.
You’ll read about the different types of field experiences our clinical students can participate in, from Wisconsin to around the world. You’ll learn about how we prioritize technology integration through grants that are given to collaborative projects with UWL faculty and our local K-12 partners. We’ll do a deep-dive into the edTPA, the assessment we used to measure graduate’s ability to plan, instruct, and assess student learning.
Highlighted in this issue’s cover story, you’ll learn about what Professional Development Schools (PDS) are and why they are so vital to preparing educators for all that is required to balance career demands.
I hope you enjoy reading.
