New Library Scholarship - Deadline Feb 16

Posted 6:40 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2016

Students, have you used materials from Special Collections? if so, consider this scholarship.

New scholarship: George Gilkey – Special Collections Research Scholarship Fund. Murphy Library is pleased to announce the George Gilkey – Special Collections Research Scholarship Fund. Applications must be received by February 16, 2016, using the form at https://uwlax.academicworks.com/opportunities/14874. Thanks to a generous bequest by George Gilkey, UWL professor emeritus of history, and an initial infusion by the Murphy Library Endowment Fund, library staff were able to create this new scholarship. The scholarship was established to honor the generosity and influence of Dr. Gilkey, who was a supporter, advocate, friend, and generous donor to Murphy Library’s Special Collections. The scholarship is open to any current UWL student enrolled full-time and in good academic standing.  Applicants must submit a single-authored intellectual product from the spring 2015 or fall 2015 semesters that used materials from Special Collections or the Area Research Center.  The works will be judged on the research use of Special Collections, development and argumentation of the ideas presented, originality of the research, quality of writing and documentation, and overall or potential contribution to academic scholarship.  The amount of the award will be $500. The selection committee will be composed of faculty and staff from Murphy Library and faculty from other academic departments. It is hoped and anticipated this new scholarship will generate increased use of Special Collections materials by UWL students, which would be a most fitting legacy to the memory of Professor Gilkey.
