Irish hiking tour group visits rocky cliffs, historic ruins

Gary Walth, UW-L director of Choral Music Studies, led an Irish hiking tour through UW-L Continuing Education and Extension July 22-29. In future trips Walth plans to do more cultural and music stops en route.

A smooth transition to new campus usernames

Information Technology Services has undertaken a number of significant projects this summer in preparation for the fall semester. One major project was the change of NETID (8.4 usernames) on Aug. 1. Mohamed Elhindi, UW-L’s chief information officer, says, “The change went exceedingly well. The staff was well prepared and the campus handled the transition very positively.” The change will help make the login process more convenient, make it easier to differentiate between student and faculty e-mail and eliminate confusion. To ensure problems were addressed immediately, additional help desk staff were available to answer calls. In addition ITS staff and Elhindi personally walked around campus to check in with departments and address any issues in person. “It was our way to have closer contact with our end users and to address problems in person,” added Elhindi. People who have any additional questions can call the newly renamed “Eagle Help Desk” at 785-8774. Other significant projects are a new campus-wide ITS technology training program which is available for faculty and staff. Additional training opportunities will be available to students. The initial training priorities will be in 1) Windows 7 and Office 2010, 2) technology classroom training in Centennial Hall, 3) D2L, and iPads. Review training schedules. Training opportunities will continually be added to the list so check it often. Other large ITS project will be the campus migration to Windows 7 and Office 2010, improving the speed of UW-L’s network infrastructure and enhancing wireless connectivity by making it more secure and user friendly.

Do you order print? Two opportunities to learn UW-L's new print process

Purchasing Office and Creative Services print purchasing seminar This seminar will clarify when orders are best suited for DigiCOPY; when orders should go through the UW-L’s Purchasing Agent, Gerry Hyzer, as well as when Creative Services can be of assistance. The session is 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, 102 Wing Technology Center. Pre-registration is required; register here. Online ordering training sessions for DigiCOPY DigiCOPY, UW-L’s new print service, will provide training sessions on using the customized online ordering system to the campus community. A total of six hands-on sessions are planned Aug. 17 and 18, 150 Murphy Library. Attendees will use their department account/funding code(s) to test and place a print order. In order to facilitate the hands-on training session, departmental account/funding code(s) must be set up in advance of the training. All attendees must email Gerry Hyzer, UW-L print purchasing agent, and copy their supervisor (in the subject line of email enter DigiCOPY Account Set-up) with the following information:

1. Your first and last name
2. Email address
3. Department/Office
4. UW-L Campus Address
5. Phone Number
6. 10-digit Funding Code - list all that will be used for printing orders (example: 128-1-072412)

The deadline for the training registration and the email to Gerry authorizing account set-up is Aug. 10. We strongly encourage all staff that will be placing printing orders with DigiCOPY to attend one of these sessions. Note: the 10:15-11:45 a.m. Aug. 17 session is full. Register for a session.

Disability and access statements are recommended

The Office of Affirmative Action and the Office of Disability Resource Services would like to remind, and strongly encourage all UW-L faculty and instructional academic staff to place the following statement in syllabi at the beginning of each semester, place it on the blackboard/bulletin board in the classrooms where you teach and add it to any emails/web-based course materials you may be using. The method(s) used should be based on the ability to provide this statement to all of the students in your classes. By providing this statement, faculty and instructional academic staff will be ensuring disability disclosure and also informing students of their willingness to provide reasonable accommodations for those students with a disability.
