Performance will be last for retiring director Karyn Quinn

A New York jazz pianist will return to La Crosse for the final concert of UW-La Crosse jazz ensembles directed by Karyn Quinn. The UW-La Crosse Jazz Orchestra and Jazz Ensemble will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, in The Bluffs Room, Student Union. The award-winning ensembles will present some of the finest selections in contemporary and classic big band jazz. Highlighting the performance is New York pianist and La Crosse native, Dave Marck. Admission is free. Marck says he is excited to return to perform with the UWL Jazz Orchestra since this will be Quinn’s last concert as a director at UWL. Quinn is retiring after 27 years as a senior lecturer in the Music Department. The UWL Jazz Orchestra will feature Marck on the Village Vanguard Orchestra’s chart “Off The Cuff,” a fast and furious-paced tune based on the harmonic progression of the jazz standard, “It’s You or No One for Me.” The Jazz Orchestra will feature many outstanding soloists throughout its set, including saxophonists, Sean Conway and Josh Dohm, on the Count Basie selection, “No Time Like the Present.” The trumpet section of Caitlin Krueger, Noah Quintero, Mathew Screnock and Josh Beron will all be featured as soloists on different selections. Trombonist Thomas Jensen will be featured on the ballad, “A Time For Love.” The UWL Jazz Ensemble will open the concert with selections including New Orleans, 2nd Line Grooves, Swing and Latin. The band will feature several soloists, including Matthew Robinson on trumpet, Joe Spencer on sax, and Eric Adams on drums.
