Marsh lead contamination studies continue with $60,000 EPA grant

A $60,000 U.S. Environmental Protection Agency grant will help UW-La Crosse researchers further investigate high levels of lead in the La Crosse River marsh and partner to educate the community about the marsh ecosystem.

UW-L student’s stand up paddleboard business keeps her on her toes

UW-L Recreation Management major Sarah Weyenberg’s business “5 Toes on the Nose” brings the native Hawaiian water sport of stand up paddleboarding to Wisconsin’s Northwoods.

UW-La Crosse to partner with Daktronics

UW-L has chosen the company Daktronics to install facility upgrades to four sports venues on campus including Roger Harring Stadium at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex and the Mitchell Hall swimming pool. DigiCOPY has a new online ordering system at http://uwl.dcopy.net. The new upgrade is user-friendly with a new UW-L look and feel. Previous users of the online ordering system were notified of the upgrade in July. There is also a link on the new log-in page to a YouTube training video. U Pass logo. U-PASS continues into 2012-13

Faculty and staff can ride La Crosse City buses for $75 a year. The university’s U-PASS contract with the La Crosse MTU will continue for 2012-13. Faculty and staff can purchase an MTU bus pass for unlimited rides on any of MTU’s six routes. Those purchasing passes can take advantage of pretax payroll deduction. Passes are available in the Cashier’s Office, 121 Graff Main Hall, and are valid Sept. 1, 2012, through Aug. 31, 2013. The U-PASS program offers daily unlimited fare-free passage on all MTU routes for students. From fall 2000 through 2011, MTU buses have provided 1,473,367 U-PASS rides. The program is a joint effort by the UW-L Student Association, UW-L Administration and MTU. For more information about U-PASS and city bus routes, visit www.uwlax.edu/af/upass/

Scott Cooper, Biology, as a biology editorial board member of MERLOT, The Multimedia Educational Resource for Learning and Online Teaching, received the MERLOT House Cup Award at the 2012 MERLOT/Sloan-C Emerging Technologies Conference July 26 in Las Vegas. MERLOT is an international initiative enabling faculty to integrate technology into higher education. The MERLOT House Cup recognizes the level of contributions made to the MERLOT collection during an academic year. Contributions include materials triaged, individual peer reviews, composite peer reviews, member comments and learning materials.
