Elmer dons heels for Riverfest event
John Elmer, Budget and Finance, joined approximately 300 in Riverfest's Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event at Riverside Park July 5. The heat index was approximately 107. After walking the mile in 30 mintues, Elmer switched to tennis shoes and, with five blisters, walked to The Pearl and cooled off with an ice cream cone. Next year he plans to organize a UW-L team. The event raises awareness of sexual assault and domestic violence. Proceeds from the benefit go to the YWCA of the Coulee Region and the Carilee Fund of Gundersen Lutheran Medical Foundation. Pre-order Harry Potter author's newest novel and receive 30 percent discount
The University Bookstore is offering a 30 percent discount for customers who pre-order J.K. Rowling's "The Casual Vacancy." It will be her first novel published since the Harry Potter series and is due to be released Sept. 27.
Rowling's first novel for adults is being called blackly comic, thought-provoking and constantly surprising.
