May graduate gets first-hand look at dream career on annual trip

UWL political science and public administration students took a trip to Madison to see what could be their future office building — the Wisconsin state capitol. Cara Henney, a third-year political science student who is expected to graduate this May, was among the students. She has ambitions to work in the capitol “ultimately as a speech writer or a communications director.” https://youtu.be/wO5kzLKKMCM The trip to Madison with her peers included a tour of the capitol, speed networking with UWL alumni and a reception with lawmakers, alumni, faculty, staff and university supporters. Henny knows this experience gives her a leg up as life after UWL continues to get closer. “I learned working in the capitol is 90 percent relationships and 10 percent politics,” she says. “Getting to meet these people and putting faces to names is so important. It’s totally worth the trip down here.”
