UW-L Band Director Tammy Fisher will conduct the La Crosse Concert Band at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, at Riverside Park.
The concert is the seventh of an eight-concert season.
“This is usually a pretty popular concert — provided it doesn’t rain and isn’t 110 degrees,” Fisher says. The Wednesday night concerts have drawn crowds of more than 2,000.
The theme for the concert follows a John Philip Sousa format featuring overtures, soloists and novelty pieces followed by an encore of Sousa marches. The concert features UW-L faculty members Tom Seddon and Kathryn Skemp. Seddon will perform the cornet solo by Herbert L. Clarke “From the Shores of the Mighty Pacific.” Skemp will sing solos from “The Merry Widow” and Victor Herbert’s operetta “Naughty Marietta.”
Children attending the concert will receive small American flags to wave in a children's march.
