A group of UWL students could be the next to appear on the TV show “Shark Tank.”
The therapeutic recreation and recreation management majors were tasked with adapting an everyday activity so people with disabilities could also participate. The projects ranged from wheelchair-friendly puzzles and fishing to a hand sock that allows people to play the drums, to a kayak adaptation for arm amputees.
“The reason I picked this is because I did research on kayaking and they have adaptations to help with balance and seats to help people in wheelchairs, but they didn’t have anything for people who can’t use their arms,” says Kara, the student behind the design. “We’re going for complete openness so everyone can participate and feel like they can do everything.”
