What is Student Success Coaching?
Student Success Coaching is a partnership between the student and coach, that centers the student in reflection and decision making. Coaches will guide students through reflection on their current circumstances, strategies that would support their success, developing an action plan, and addressing accountability.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Advising and Student Success Coaching?
Advising is often more directive than Student Success Coaching, where the advisor is seen as the expert. Advisors assist students in areas related to academic progress and degree progression. In Student Success Coaching, the student is the expert on their experience. Coaches will guide students in reflecting on what challenges they may be facing, and how to identify an action plan to make progress in addressing those challenges.
What happens in a Student Success Coaching appointment?
During an appointment, the student is seen as an expert on their own experience. Coaches will guide students using open-ended questions, strength-based coaching, reflection, and GROW goals, while embracing a growth-mindset. Coaches will use these strategies to coach around an action plan and accountability for a student, as they work to achieve their identified goals.
